Head Lice Procedure
Hot Vanilla aims to educate all clients or family members when a minor is involved who experience head lice
Head lice are common and can be treated effectively by numerous forms of treatments.
It is Hot Vanilla policy that we abide by the following procedure should a stylist come
Into contact with headlice whilst completing a service.
o In consultation ALL minors (Under 18 years of age) having their hair cut or coloured should be discretely checked for eggs or louse present in the hair before they are shampooed
o If you think a client may have headlice or you are unsure you must advise a senior stylist or manager to assist you in the diagnosis
o If it is identified that the client does have head lice a PROFFESSIONAL and DISCREET CONVERSATION must be had. If it involves a minor you must involve the parents or carer. Please advise a senior member to attend if you are not comfortable with having this conversation
o REMEMBER: We have professional products on our shelves which clients can purchase to treat the hair. It is also recommended that they purchase 2 sectioning clips for precise removal of eggs.
Please advise the client that they may return to the hair salon once the hair has been treated and all eggs have been removed from hair
Please reassure client that this occurs often and make them feel as comfortable as possible to return to our salon
Useful information for clients
Hot hair iron after treatment, using small sections will ensure all eggs are removed and eggs will be easily sighted if still present in hair
Once treated and all eggs removed, maintain hair by putting some conditioner through hair and tying hair back
If eggs are difficult to remove pour a solution of vinegar and water over the hair as this will help to break the glue in the eggs so that they may be easily slid off the hair shaft.
